HMV organises ICSSR sponsored seminar on Fraudulent NRI Marriages Psychosocial and Ethical Perspectives

HMV at Jalandhar on Tuesday organising ICSSR sponsored seminar on Fraudulent NRI Marriages Psychosocial and Ethical Perspectives.

Jalandhar, February 25, 2014: The Sociology and Psychology departments of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organised a one day ICSSR sponsored seminar on “Fraudulent NRI Marriages Psychosocial and Ethical Perspectives.” 

The Chief Guest of the seminar was Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Ex-Cabinet Minister, Punjab.  The seminar was presided over by Social Activist from Canada, VN Sharma.  Keynote speakers were Jatinder Pannu, Deputy Attorney Ritu Grover and Ex-Passport Officer Parneet Singh.  Principal Dr Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj welcomed the guests.  Seminar Coordinator and Head of Sociology Department Geetika Mahajan introduced the topic of the seminar. 

Keynote speaker Jatinder Pannu said that girls are equal n all fields.  Girls have to prove their existence.  Times have changed over the years.  Now the meaning of marriage has changed.  People want that their girl should be married to an NRI.  They marry their girl without verifying about the groom.  Mentality of the society should be changed.  Ex-Passport Officer Parneet Singh told about the Women Grievance Cell started by him in which the passport of Fraudulent NRI’s is to be impounded on the complaint of the victim.

Deputy Attorney Jalandhar Ritu Grover told the students about their rights.  She told them about it is the right of every women to file a complaint against NRI frauds.  Protection to victims is also offered by NGO’s.

In her address, Laxmi Kanta Chawla said that no one can throw a girl into hell.  Every girl is strong.  Women have been degraded because they do not stand up for their rights.  She also said that coin has two sides.  Some girls are also misusing the laws.  Those girls who are living in live-in-relation are doing suicide.  Seminar co-ordinator Ashmeen Kaur gave vote of thanks.  The stage was conducted by Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Head of Psychology Department.
