51st prize distribution function in KCW

Ludhiana, March 4, 2014: Recognising the fructiferous endeavours of girls who rose above the ordinary in various fields, 51st annual prize distribution function was organised Tuesday in Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana.
An immensely accomplished personality Dr. Daljit Singh (Principal, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana.) presided over the function. The Chief Guest was accorded a warm welcome by Madam Principal Dr. Varinder Kaur Thind, College managing committee, entire staff and the students at his arrival in the college premises. The function commenced with an invocation to God. Welcoming the Chief Guest Madam Principal riveted the audience by presenting the annual report of the college through multimedia and in that she highlighted the achievements of students in academic, cultural and sports domains for the session 2013 – 2014. She in her address expressed the belief that the college always put strenuous efforts to impart holistic education that is aimed at preparing the students to become global citizens devoted to humanistic values. She thanked the charismatic managing committee which has been a persistent steering force ensuring the smooth administering of this institution and source of inspiration for all.  She showed her immense gratitude to Pritpal Singh Grewal (President KCW), Dr. S.S Grewal (Vice – President), Gurdish Singh Grewal (Secretary), Sarbrinder Kaur Grewal (Manager), and Dr. Vijay Asdhir (Director, KIMT) for gracing the occasion.  She further congratulated all the prize winners for their achievements.
She highlighted that the persistent endeavour of the students reaped rich dividends during the session 2012 – 2013, where in 50 students secured various top 10 positions in University examinations. She further added that with the objective of motivating deserving students the college provides several scholarships. Talking about the achievements of the college she mentioned that the sports dept. set new land marks this year.  KCW stars garnered rich treasures of 60 gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze medals. Another achievement to reckon with is the college fetched the over – all championship Trophy.  
Another feather in the cap of the college is that a total of 47 students have been placed with prestigious companies like IBM. A unique enviable milestone was set as the college justly fetched the glorious overall Trophy at the Zonal Youth Festival. The students clinched 11 First Prizes, 11 Second & 10 Third Prizes in Zonal Youth Heritage Festival and 7 prizes at Inter Zonal Youth Festival. Not only the students but also the teachers of the college are at all times engaged in broadening their horizons.                     
The chief guest awarded a total number of 225 students who bagged various positions. In the event 34 college toppers, 182 Post Graduate and Graduate students were awarded for their hard work. Apart from this some other awards were also awarded. Dr. Shweta Singh was awarded with the ‘Best Library User Award’, Rajdeep Kaur of B.Sc III (Non-Medical) was decorated with the ‘Best Library User Student Award’. Physical Education Department of the College was decorated with the best department award. Vijay Kumar was awarded with ‘Best Watchman’ Award.
Lauding the achievements of the students the guest of the occasion congratulated the Principal, members of the management, Staff, students and their parents for the ever growing graph of their achievements. During his oration he said that the recognition gives motivation to the students and he talked about the need of awareness among women to have a prosperous life. Further, while giving best wishes to students he urged them ‘to do what you love’ and ‘love what you do’ by putting emphasis on optimum utilisation of time. Last but not the least he encouraged students with the inspirational lyrics of his melodious song.
