Panchkula, August 9, 2014: A Blood Donation Camp was organised by Doon Public School, Panchkula, a new generation school, at its premises in Sec 21 today. The Camp was held by the School as a step towards fulfilling its social responsibility and also to mark ‘Rakshabandhan’.
According to Capt Sanjay Anand, SM, Principal, Doon Public School, Panchkula, “Rakshabandhan is a festival in which brothers vow to protect their sisters’ from any harm, we thought that organizing a blood donation camp would be an apt way of giving the message to citizens to protect lives of their fellow Indians who need blood, by becoming voluntary blood donors because there is no other source of its supply.”
As there is a major shortage of blood in different hospitals of the region, the School management has taken a conscious decision to contribute in whatever way it can, to meet the ever increasing demand for blood by patients. This is why a blood donation camp was organised in the school.
Said Sunita Anand, Vice Principal, Doon Public School, Panchkula, “The camp was also a tribute to our brave freedom fighters, just short of Independence day and to the heroes of Kargil, as Vijay Diwas was observed recently.”
The camp saw eager participation by parents of students and members of the public. 60 Units of Blood was collected. The donors were awarded with souvenirs and certificates to acknowledge their contribution.
The blood was collected by a Medical team from Blood Bank Society, General Hospital, Sec 6, Panchkula, under the supervision of Dr. Seema Ghai. Said Dr.Seema Ghai, “It is nice to see a school take such an initiative. I am thankful to Doon Public School.  There is a dire need for many such camps.” The school’s initiative is indeed commendable as there is an urgent need to cultivate a trend among people to donate blood. It is noteworthy to state that every two seconds someone needs blood and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Hence, such camps are of help in creating a good buffer of blood, to be used in times of need.
