
Different views of Lohri celebrations at Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj, Ludhiana on Saturday.
Ludhiana, January 12, 2013: The environment of Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj, Ludhiana resonated with strains of folk music as Lohri celebrations were held with great verve and vigour today.
This significant Punjabi festival once again brought everyone together. The celebrations began with the lighting of the bonfire by Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Educational Council and his better half, Rajinder Kaur. They were accompanied by Harbans Singh, General Secretary, Ramgarhia Educational Council and Principal Dr. Narinder Sandhu.
Prof. Gurbhajan Gill, President, Punjabi Sahit Akademi graced the occasion.
The students were enlightened about the importance of Lohri. They were distributed the groundnuts and revri. The students of music department sang Lohri songs in their Melodious voices while others tapped their feet on the same. Even teachers danced and enjoyed the day. Principal Dr. Narinder Sandhu also joined them.
On this special occasion, Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Educational Council announced that Ramgarhia Educational Council has started ‘Better World Campaign’. He added that the motto of this campaign is to start a signature movement for all citizens to work for better social scenario, values, eradicate crimes, to fight against menaces like rape, dowry, female foeticide and narrow mindedness. Prof. Gurbhajan Gill said that in the changing scenario the thinking of people is shifting more towards celebrating Lohri parties for girls, conveying the message that boys and girls have equal rights and girls are no more inferior to them.
Harbans Singh also emphasised the need of providing a respected position to women for the formation of a healthy society.
Principal Dr. Narinder Sandhu thanked the Almighty and said that Lohri is more than just a festival, it celebrates the sparks of life and sets the tone of the whole year ahead and hoped that the coming year would bring happiness in the lives of everyone.
Surinder Singh Attwal (U.K.) and Ajaib Singh Garcha (U.K.) of Sikh Channel were also honoured on this occasion.
