A 2-day National Seminar on `Globalization, Media and Hindi’ concludes at KMV

Speakers addressing the 2-day National Seminar on `Globalization, Media and Hindi’ on concluding day at KMV, Jalandhar.

Jalandhar, September 27, 2014: A two-day UGC Sponsored National Seminar on `Globalization, Media and Hindi’ being organised by P.G Department of Hindi concluded today at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar.

The second day proceedings began with paper presentation in the first technical session chaired by Dr Pooran Chand Tondon, Director, Indian Academy of Translation, Delhi. He detailed the present delegates about Problems in Translation & solutions and how the contribution of Hindi in the field of translation can help it evolve into a global language.

The invited speaker Dr. Harish Sethi from School of Translation Studies & Training, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi discussed the role of Hindi and its immense contribution in the field of Translation is on its way to making this language a global one. He emphasised  that the development of society and language must go hand in hand therefore globalization & Media are playing their vital role in its evolution.

The subject expert Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Director, Central Hindi Directorate, Delhi averred that the role of Translation Studies cannot be under mined in the growth of a language rather it adds to its dynamism but at the same time, the influence of other languages is always at work.

In his Valedictory Address, Prof. Dr. Avdesh Kumar Singh, Former Vice Chancellor, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University, Gurjrat, expatiated on the definition of Globalization and its impact and concomitant forces working on Media and Language as well.

Cultural courtesy is manifested through linguistic courtesy therefore we must adopt on all-inclusive approach to help Hindi grow amidst all other widely spoken languages of the world in an age of hybridization. Inevitable technological advancement can rather be used for linguistic advancement.

The chief guest, Prof. Suresh Seth, a celebrated writer, elaborated his views on the role of social Media which is playing constructive as well as destructive role. Therefore it is the once of creative writers to spread multi-dimensional awareness among the users of a language. The language used in digital world can by no means replace languages like Hindi or English which have been inspiring creative writers for so many ages.

The proceedings of two-day seminar were presented by Dr. Rupika Bhanot in her detailed report.
