Students actively participate in Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya drive being undertaken in BCM School, Dugri, Ludhiana on Wednesday.
Ludhiana, October 1, 2014: Paying homage to one of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite tenets - ‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’ - the Government of India has launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
It’sa proud privilege for the school to be a part of this campaign. The students volunteered to actively participate and help in the execution of the planning of the Indian Government.
The school students made concerted efforts to promote awareness about sanitation and hygiene, not onlyon the personal grounds but also other surroundings among the common masses.
Parents were sensitised by the students about the cleanliness of the surroundings. Students asked them various questions like importance of sanitation, their definition of it and their contribution in accomplishing the dream of Swachh Bharat. The drive got a mixed response from parents. On one hand where some parents were positively moved and promised to be active members of the campaign the others were surprised to know about certain facts and figures of the consequences of unhygienic conditions. A few student actors performing on the center stage attracted many audience towards their role play. Posing as different dignitaries they went about sweeping and mopping the floors and spreading the message of shunning off our shyness and coming forward to contribute our bit in this social cause.
Parents were shown videos highlighting the river cleaning projects going on in the country and other inspirational videos for keeping their surrounding clean.
The school Principal Dr. Vandna Shahi expressed her heart’s elation on seeing her students and teachers being a part of this service to the society. She remarked that only if every Indian promises to keep his surrounding clean we can dream of a healthy and prosperous nation
