Ferozepur, April 14, 2013: The Ferozepur Critic  and Philosophical Society organised a seminar at  Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur on `Justice and Death Sentence’.

A group of B.Com students of Veer Devinder Kaur, Ramanpreet Kaur, Veerpal Kaur and Amandeep Kaur of BCA, said the decision of death sentence is against the justice by raising the questions on the death sentence. Giving a reference of Amnesty International, Khushpreet said, “During the year 2012, 682 persons were awarded the punishment of death sentence in about 21 countries in the world.  Presently, in 97 countries, there is a ban on death sentence while India is among the 58 countries whereas awarding of death sentence is still in practice. Taking life of any persons is against the ethics of humanity and such incidents put the victim’s family in distress for whole of the life.  Any person, who takes the life of innocent persons, does not deserve any sympathy and now it is very necessary to analyse both the crime and punishment. Death sentence is not the solution of the problem.

Veer Davinder and Ramanpreet said, when there is a provision of mercy petition even after the announcement of death sentence by the Apex Court before the President, it keeps before it the hope and justice towards life. Opposing the death sentence, Amandep and Veer Pal Kaur said, sometimes the decisions of the courts are also changed but death sentence is such a punishment, which cannot be changed after its pronouncement.  On this occasion, the students appealed that there should be a ban on the punishment of death sentence not only in India but in whole of nations of the world.
