FAUJA SINGH: Marathon races and long walks are my medicines

Fauja Singh being awarded with ‘Virasat Award-2013’ by   Gurcharan Singh, Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina, Principal Harmeet Kaur Waraichj at a felicitation ceremony organised at Nankana Sahib Public School, Ludhiana on Tuesday.

Ludhiana, January 22, 2013: Centurion turbaned Tornado Fauja Singh was cynosure of all eyes, when he run a marathon, with the students of Nankana Sahib Public school here this afternoon, to create awareness against social evils, and to promote his theme of ‘Sports for All’ and good health for all human beings .

101 years old Fauja Singh was seen in high spirits, while running with the school students.

The school children were carrying play cards of ‘Sports for All’,’ Save Environment’,’ Save Girl child’,’ Let’s Promote Human Rights’,’ Education Peace and Development through Culture Sports’,’ World Peace and Humanity’,’ Avoid Drugs Save Generations’ and depicting other Social themes’ and also spreading the message of “Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body”.

Fauja Singh’s marathon race against social evils was organised by leading International folk ensemble, Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) in collaboration with Nankana Sahib EducationTrust.

Event organiser and PCPC Director Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina termed Fauja Singh as Pride of Sikh community and a great role model for the younger generations.

Fauja Singh is playing a historic role to promote Sikh turban, good health, sports for all and charity in the world, said Dr.Chhina.

Fauja Singh was honoured with Virasat Award 2013 by Punjab Cultural Promotion Council led by Dr. Chhina and Nankana Sahib Education Trust Director Gurcharan Singh Gill, Principal Harmeet Kaur Waraich, Bansi Lal, Prof Jawanda, Gurmail Singh Sangowal and other on this occasion.

Harpal Singh Dhaliwal (Canada), Makhan Singh             (Canada), Dr. M. S. Dhanju (BIS Group of Institutes), Gatka Instructor Prabhsimranjit Singh Khalsa, Principal Harmeet Kaur Waraich were also honoured on the occasion.

School Students recited Shabad Gayan and also performed Sikh martial Arts “Gatka” during this programme.

Harpal Singh Dhaliwal from Toronto termed Fauja Singh as the one of the greatest Sikhs of the world and a great symbol of peace and health through sports.

Interacting with the media, Fauja Singh spoke about his role for          charity and humanity in the world through ‘World Marathon Races’. “I walk four kilometers a day, take balanced and vegetarian diet to keep my health in high esteems. I get delighted to run races for school children to create awareness amongst them, against         social evils”, said Fauja Singh.

 “Our Future lies in our children and they should be motivated for good health”, Fauja Singh further said, adding Waheguru’s blessings provided him strength to run marathon.

He said, “It is the will of Guru to bless me for running in world’s longest marathons of 40 to 45 kilometers at England, Canada and other parts of the world. I wish to visit and run marathon in       Australia in future.”

Further, Fauja Singh told that Punjabis and particularly Sikhs settled abroad had always inspired him a lot to spread the message of peace and goodwill through marathon races.

Fauja Singh was wearing a sky colour turban, track suit and sports shoes.

The students were excited to have them photographed with Fauja Singh. “It is a rare chance for us to see and meet world famous Fauja Singh”, said Kanwar Amitoj  Waraich and Navraj Singh Chhina, the students of  Nankana Sahib Public School.

Fauja Singh told that he had never taken any medicines.

“Marathon races and long walks are my medicines”, said Fauja Singh.

He provided tips of  running  race to the students.

Fauja Singh gave a  call to Punjabis to shun drugs and promote good health.

Soon Sardar Fauja Singh would be 102 years of his age but the way he answered to media questions, showed his commitment, vision, clarity and dedication for physical fitness.
