Ferozepur, July 12, 2013: Ferozepur, a town situated just at 9 KMs from Indo-Pak is now no more backward and it is a matter of proud that “PUM” institute of Netherland government has selected the local Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus (SBSSTC) for delivering key note lectures by their faculty on different areas of Technology for enhancing the employability of students as well as to expose the faculty and students to latest developments in the field of science and technology.
PUM stands for ‘Programma Uitzending Managers’ which is Dutch for ‘Manager Deployment Programme’. It is an organisation of senior experts in various fields who connect entrepreneurs in developing countries and emerging markets with senior experts from the Netherlands each of whom has gained at least 30 years of experience in a business environment.
SBSSTC has been selected by the PUM Netherlands for this prestigious project and under the project; experts in various fields shall deliver lectures at SBSSTC Ferozepur. In the first phase, Dr. Jan Borkent shall begin his lecture series from 3rd of August and interact with the students and faculty for 25 days followed by more experts in the coming months.
The SBSTC is the only state managed engineering college declared by Punjab Govt as “State Technical Campus” based on the report of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and its most of faculty has Ph.D. degree from IITs of the country. The institute also recently received a grant of 10 Crore from MHRD and Rs 2 crore from the AICTE for purchasing state-of-art equipments and developing infrastructure. Many experts from IIT Roorkee, IIT Delhi , IIT Ropar and from other reputed institutes are also visiting as Guest Faculty to give world class exposure of Technology to students.
The institute Director, Dr. T.S Sidhu, who is himself an alumni of IIT Roorkee, said, “The developments in the institution, are on account of tremendous motivation and support from Anil Joshi, Minister for Technical Education & Industrial Training and the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dinesh Lakra, who is an eminent industrialist of the country”.
“It is a matter of proud that SBSSTC has gone for collaboration with senior experts of PUM of Neatherland to enhance the technical skills of the students. We will continue to build relationship with abroad universities in the pursuit of improving the quality of Technical Education” added Dr. Sidhu
It is pertinent to mention that recently during the month of June, Dr. Sidhu and Chairman BOG Lakra have visited US top ranking universities including California University, Harvard Business School and MIT University Boston and the Institute is actively pursuing the proposal to have collaboration with US Universities for giving two months training to second and third years students and six months training to final year students in the US universities.
