Ludhiana, August 29, 2013: The campus of Guru Nanak Girls College dazzled with colours amid Fresher’s Day celebration on Thursday.
Senior students of the college organised a cultural show to welcome the newcomers. The function commenced with a short speech by Principal Dr. Charanjit Mahal in which she formally welcomed the new students on behalf of the staff and all students. She assured that unstinted efforts would be made to develop all-round personality of the students. A beautiful and entertaining cultural extravaganza comprising of elegant dances, melodious songs, realistic skits and humorous choreography was presented by the seniors. The hallmark of the day was Miss Fresher contest in which 200 students took part. The stage came alive as the contestants sashayed down the ramp in scintillating attires. The question-answer round put the brains of the participants to test. The display of costumes, accessories, beauty, intelligence and presence of mind were fabulous.
Megha Gulati (M.Sc. Physics) was declared Miss Fresher, Kanika Chaudhary B.A. 1st and Pawandeep Kaur (PGDPM&LW) were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Neha Vadera, M.Sc. (Chemistry) was given the title of Miss Beautiful Smile, Ashwjit Kaur, B.Sc. 1st was declared Miss Elegant, Sheeba (M.A.1st Sociology) was declared Miss Best outfit and Swati Jain (MBE) was declare Miss Beautiful Hair.
Dr. Sandeep Kaur, Harpreet Kaur and Arvinder Kaur performed the duty of judges. Principal Dr. Charanjit Mahal crowned the winners and presented them tokens of appreciation.
President of the College Gurbir Singh said that such contests give the students a common platform to share their views, besides giving an exposure to public speaking. A wave of cheer and joy prevailed everywhere.
