A Legal Literacy Club set at Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, being inaugurated on Saturday.
Ludhiana, August 31, 2013: Keeping in view the need of the hour, a Legal Literacy Club has been set at Ramgarhia Girls College on Saturday.
It is established with a motive to sensitise and mobilise the youngsters about their legal rights and duties. The club was inaugurated by the Chief Guest G. S. Matharoo, District and Session Judge cum Chairman, District Legal Service Authority, Ludhiana.
K. K. Singla, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Ludhiana was the Guest of Honour. After the inauguration, the students were addressed by the Guests in a seminar. G. S. Matharoo said that it is important to create awareness about the legal services among the youth, especially women, as it enables them to become law abiding citizens and, when situation demands, also equips them to raise their voice against injustice.
K. K. Singla, while addressing the students stressed that becoming a legally aware citizen is a prerequisite for every young student. He further added that if the young generation becomes aware of the legal aids then it can further spread the light of knowledge and benefit the less privileged ones. Principal, Dr. Narinder Sandhu said that knowledge in itself is a measure of empowerment and legal information certainly enables the students to stand up for themselves.
Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Educational Council, also averred that such initiatives enrich the students with the required information about their legal rights and duties and such awareness holds immense significance for a cordial society. Twenty five students got themselves enrolled in the club. College magazine, ‘Rut Lekha’ was also released on the occasion.
Jagtar Singh, General Secretary, Ramgarhia Educational Council, expressed his gratitude to the esteemed guests for their benign presence on the occasion and for motivating the students with their illuminating addresses.
