Jalandhar News- Second Day of International Design Week 2

Jalandhar, September 24, 2013: International Design Week 2 being organised by Apeejay College of Fine Arts in collaboration with Willem de Kooning Academy for Fine Arts & Design, (WdKA) Rotterdam, Netherlands entered its second day.
The graphic designer from WdKA Rotterdam, Prof Renate Boere gave a presentation on the topic titled “Cycling and Recycling” which highlighted the theme “Cultural Transformation through Design”. She shared the importance of cycling which is a very important means of transport in Netherlands.  She discussed a six day long workshop in Bengaluru, India of which she was a part that promoted the use of cycles as a popular mode of transport.
Prof. Renate has authored a book on paintings of the 17th century titled “De Anatomische Les” which translated means “The Anatomy”.
She showed the work of her students in WdKA based on the theme of Cultural Transformation.  
Prof. Anil Gupta, Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Art gave a presentation on the topic “Symbol Transcending Culture” in which he showed the symbols of Swastika, Om and Khanda and illustrated with pictures how these symbols defy the bonds of culture and the boundaries of the countries.  
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sucharita the Director of the Workshop and the Principal of the College remarked that design changes to accommodate the changes in the culture and they are both inseparable.
Prof. Maarten Regouin, the Chairperson of the workshop informed the gathering that the 27 groups were working on the themes of Education (Illiteracy and gurukul), Health(Sugar is poison), Hygienic (Get Jalandhar clean and healthy) Safety of women(If a girl says ‘no’, she means no),Communication(We are all together, we are all alone),Household(Bring old traditions back into the architecture), Old age, Public space , Nature, and Transport (cycling and recycling).
