KMV organises extension lecture on Green Chemistry

An extension lecture in progress at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar.

 

Jalandhar, February 23, 2013: Department of Chemistry, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organised an extension lecture in order to acquaint the students with the role of chemistry in saving our environment. 

Professor, Swapandeep Singh Chimni, Department of Chemistry, GNDU, Amritsar, was the resource person and was accorded floral welcome by the faculty of the chemistry department. 

Green Chemistry is based on 12 principles and he in a very simple way explained all the principles.  He laid stress on three R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle)  and added that the purpose is to carry out reactions under normal conditions without producing many hazardous bye products and the atom efficiency of the reaction must be high on productive scale.  

Lecture was well received by the students and Dr. Chimni satisfied the queries from the students’ side. 

Principal Dr. Atima Sharma applauded the Department of Chemistry for carrying out such meaningful activities.  She averred that green chemistry is the need of the hour and following it will help in making a meaningful contribution to the environment.
