Punjab Education Minister launches helpline for complaints against department

Mohali/Chandigarh, July 15, 2014: The Punjab Education Minister Dr.Daljit Singh Cheema today took first bold step to ensure accountability of staff towards the public and to ensure transparency in grievances redressal system by launching toll free number 1800-1372215 for time bound redressal of complaints.
Disclosing this here today, Education Minister said that a complaint and grievance cell has also been made operational in the office of Director General School Education (DGSE) wherein public can lodge their complaints/grievances or give suggestions on this toll free number. This cell would be operational from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m on all working days, Manoj ASPD (HR) has been appointed to supervise the functioning of this cell. Citizens can also register their complaints/grievances/suggestions on the following website: ssapunjab.org.
The Education Minister had made an official statement in his first meeting with the officials of the Education Department held on 17/6/2014, where he had promised better accountability of the department in redressing public grievances by setting up a toll free number. Within a span of 28 days this commitment has been fulfilled by team led by G.K. Singh. Dr. Cheema stated that these measures provide a channel to the aggrieved citizens to express their grievances as well as gives an assurance about the existence of a system for prompt redressal.
The main motive of setting up this grievance mechanism is to give greater access to public to lodge their grievances in a hassle free manner so as to save themselves from the ordeal of running from pillar to post to get their complaints registered. All the grievances/complaints lodged would be directed to respective departments daily for early redressal, this process would ensure timely and appropriate response from the Department. Anjali Bhawra, Principal Secretary School Education, G.K. Singh Director General School Education, Dr. Kamal Garg D.P.I.(SE) were present on this occasion.
The Minister further said that these measures would enable the government to know the pulse of citizen’s opinions about the policies and practices being implemented. He added that they also help keeps up the service standards of the Department by ensuring that grievances are redressed in a fair and transparent manner.
