Ferozepur, April 19, 2013: The working of education department in Punjab is unsteady, unbalanced, unsettled, unstable rather unsettled.  If the teaching staff is not satisfied from the policies of the department, what else can be expected from them to improve the education system in the state. It may be opening of new schools, upgradation from middle to high and high to higher secondary, providing of infra-structure, rationalisation of teachers in proportion to the students or as per the requirement of number of classes, the education department of Punjab Government is failure on every front.

In this context, an emergent meeting of the Govt. School Lecturers Union (PGSLU), Punjab, was held under the leadership of Mohinder Pal Singh President to discuss the problems being faced by the lecturer cadre.

The Union leaders have demanded from the Punjab Government that the rationalisation policy may be finalised on logics and keeping in view the ground realities of the government schools by discussing with the union leaders of the teachers unions so that the outcome of its implementation is beneficial both for the education department and teaching class.  In the meeting, the policy of giving 5-6 schools to one principal was also condemned because these orders have affected the education of senior secondary schools.

The Union demanded that senior lecturers should be given the drawing and disbursing (DD) powers to run the day today affairs of the schools more efficiently.

The arbitrary decision of  transfer of male teachers  by the education department from girls’ schools was also condemned.  The union took seriously the inordinate delay in finalising the ACP during probation period and decided that a deputation of the union will meet the Circle Education Officer and District Education Officer every month.
