Winners of ‘Imprints’13’ held at Chitkara International School, Chandigarh, on Monday

Chandigarh, July 22, 2013: The city witnessed a one of its kind event ‘Imprints’13’ at Chitkara International School, here, on Monday

It was organised by the school in collaboration with WORDZ – the debating society.

With a participation of about 400 students from 40 schools from across the tri-city and surroundings , ‘Imprints’13’ marked the sunrise of a new genre of fun filled events as very rarely in the city any literary and GK based competition is organised for students of this age group.

Designed by WORDZ – the debating society and hosted by Chitkara International School, ‘Imprints’13’ had students of classes 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 participating in two simultaneous events – Inquizzitive and Decode, respectively. Inquizzitive  : A quiz for this target group of students came across as a breath of fresh air with young minds engrossed in solving crosswords, puzzles and other interesting questions. The quiz had a sting in the tail with a second round based on the ‘Jeopardy’ format, which involved question selection by the teams as per the points required for the top spot. Each set of questions were valued differently. Both the sub-events were aptly able to stimulate the cognitive and analytical skills of the children, in the process testing their aptitude, general knowledge, vocabulary et al, while adding the most important ingredient of the event, the element of fun! The activities also encouraged the feeling of team work and bonding among the kids.

Meanwhile, the school premises were abuzz with another exciting competition – Decode : wherein kids were metaphors of young Sherlock Homes trying to find their way through the maze. This was a treasure hunt for classes 6 to 8 and made the students put on their thinking caps and delve into the finer details of the building and exploring the school infrastructure to locate the treasure trunk. This was a time bound activity with the number of clues solved also having a bearing on distinguishing the winners from the rest.

Chitkara International School (CIS) is an institution which endorses not just academic advancement of a student but also all round development which facilitates holistic growth of a child. The atmosphere at CIS was full of excitement and adventure as the event IMPRINTS'13 commenced. This event turned out to be a milestone in enhancing the interest in extra-curricular activities. Both the events aimed at nurturing the qualities of team work and co-ordination, while testing their literary and aptitude skills.

As per the Principal Niyati Chitkara, "Imprints'13 aims at stimulating the cognitive skills in children while coupling it with the fun element. It was a breakthrough event and we hope to make it an annual affair. ‘Imprints’13’ looks at leaving a lasting print on the minds of the participating students and teachers alike of being a unique platform in both structure and composition. With this event being an annual affair from this year onwards, the city students can look forward to many more fun competitions in the future”.

The substantive part of the event was taken care of by WORDZ – the debating society, which is not a new name in the city’s debating arena. With a legacy of having organized 20 plus events in the past six years, including Model United Nations conferences and Parliamentary Debates, the organization entered its seventh year by making it the meaning of ‘literary’ interesting for these students with ‘Imprints’13’.

As far Results of the Events  , Strawberry Field World School,sector,26  won ‘Inquizzitive’, while the Strawberry Field World School, sector 26 was declared the winner of ‘Decode’ too at  inaugural ‘Imprints’13’.
