
Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana celebrates the festival of Teej on Wednesday.
Ludhiana, August 14, 2013: It was a festive atmosphere at Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana as the staff and students dressed in traditional dresses celebrated the festival of Teej on Wednesday.
Principal Dr. Charanjit Mahal enlightened the students on socio-economic importance of Teej and stressed on the need to remain in touch with the culture of Punjab and preserve it. The variety of stalls including bangles, jewellery, purses, cosmetics and mehndi made the function look more natural. Students enjoyed eating traditional sweets like “Kheer” and “Malpoorah”. Various traditional articles like Bagh, Phulkari, Charkha, Pakhis, Chhaj, Daris were also displayed on the stalls.
The campus displayed a unique view of its Punjabi culture and rich heritage. Colourfully dressed girls had a gala time on specially installed ‘Peengh,’ singing songs of Teej and Saawan.
Various competitions including Giddha, Ms. Punjaban, Mehndi, Hair Style (Middi Gundana) and Charkha- Chakki were organised.
RESULTS
The “Giddha” performance by Arts Stream was adjudged to be the best, the second position was bagged by Commerce and the third position was secured by Science.
In Mehndi competition Suvidha of B.Sc.-III (Non-Medical) was declared first, Harcharanjit of BA-III was second and Amanpreet of M.Sc. (Fashion Designing) was given third prize.
In traditional Punjabi Hair Styling contest, the first prize was won by Mamta of B.Sc.-III(Fashion Designing) second and third prize by Arshdeep and Lavjot of B.Sc.-III (Fashion Designing) respectively.
Miss Jaspreet Kaur of BA-I was declared Miss Punjaban and Sumandeep of M.Sc.(Physics) and Malika of BA-II was the first and second runner up respectively. Gurwant Kaur of BA-II was declared Giddhian Di Rani. Harneet Kaur of B.Com.-III won the prize for best traditional Punjabi dress.
Principal Dr. Charanjit Mahal gave away the prizes to the winners and hoped that spirit of joy which has been initiated with this occasion shall continue to exist throughout the session.
