
A National Seminar by the Department of Commerce and Economics of RSD College, Ferozepur is being organised on ‘New Economic Reforms and Agrarian Crisis in India in context of North-East India’ on Monday.
Ferozepur, February 11, 2013: A National Seminar by the Department of Commerce and Economics of RSD College, Ferozepur was organised on ‘New Economic Reforms and Agrarian Crisis in India in context of North-East India’ on Monday.
Dr. Gyan Singh was the keynote speaker discussed on the specific reasons for agrarian crisis and permanent solution. He emphasised upon the government to work out permanent solution to the agrarian problems. While discussing about the insecticides and pesticides, he said, in case we spray 1,000 ml, only 1 ml had affect on the insects and the remaining 999 ml pollutes the earth, air and water which later on had a severe impact on health of the people.
Harbhej Singh, an agricultural expert on organic sharing his experience said, he does not use any type chemical in-puts in his agriculture and the only solution to the agrarian crisis is organic farming. Organic farming is a form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control.
Dr.Vikram Chadha, Head Economics Department, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, heading the technical session of the seminar said, in the present circumstances, the agrarian crisis subject is a matter of consideration and there is need to find out the solution to this problem.
Dr. R. K. Mahajan from Regional Centre, Bahtinda said, the agrarian crisis have reached to the extent of compelling the farmers to commit suicide and this point needs serious consideration.
Umedra Dutt, Director Kheti Virasat Mission expressing his views on the subject said, the present agrarian crisis is only of farmers. He further said, the technology is never impartial or unprejudiced. The main suggestion was given to come out of the crisis is change the agriculture pattern.
The farmers of the area specially participated in this seminar besides professors and students of the local colleges and shared their views on the subject. At the end of the seminar, the question-answer session was also organised.
