Punjab News- Bajwa emphasises on girl’s education

Bathinda, September 25, 2013: Partap Singh Bajwa MP and President Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today announced a grant of Rs.5 lakhs from his MPLAD fund for SSD college for girls here for education infrastructure and stressed for educating girls while speaking at a function of the college.
Kapil Sibal Union Minister for Telecommunication was the chief guest.
Bajwa said that society couldn’t grow without educating girls. He said that if the girl is educated, she would be an asset for the parents, in-laws and society as a whole. He said that a self dependent and educated girl can fight against the social evils like dowry and female feticide. He appealed to girls to take responsibility to reform the society and eradicate social evils. He also appealed to parents to trust their daughters and back them up for fulfilling their dreams. He emphasized that it was duty of state government to provide free education to the girls. Unfortunately, Punjab government led by SAD-BJP lacked vision in this direction and discontinued free education for girls till graduation level.
PPCC President said that social media was becoming an important tool of communication for the young generation. He said that there was need to educate the girls in particular about the positive and nagative aspects of social media. He also thanked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Kapil Sibal for the funds provided to SSD college for development of IT infrastructure.
Sibal said that center government was providing funds to state governments under various schemes to promote girl child and their education. He said that a safe and secure environment was necessary for girls to continue education.  He said that determination and hard work were key to success.
