Jalandhar News/KMV’s Dr. Madhumeet-translates for British Centre for Literary Translation, U.K. and Sahitya Akademi

Dr. Madhumeet from KMV P.G. Department of English was invited by British Centre for Literary Translation, U.K. Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi to translate Punjabi short-stories into English.  For this collaborative venture by Sahitya Akademi, British Council and British Centre for Literary Translation 3 short stories of the renowned Punjabi fictions Prem Parkash have been translated by Dr. Madhumeet avers that translating these stories was quite a daunting task and she had to be careful in remaining close to the original.  One has to keep the fiver naunces of the language in mind also while translating. She adds that all her endeavours paid off well when one fine evening she received an call from an unfamiliar number and to her pleasant surprise the caller was hone other than the master of the craft, Prem Parkash.  He was generous to lavish praise on Dr. Madhumeet for her translation of his stories.  He wants to add that she seemed to have understand his mind while translating. It is worth or mention here that Dr. Madhumeet has carved on enviable niche for herself as a translator.  Her translation of K.S. Duggal’s anthology entitled “Mitti Mussulamna Ki” has won her international acclaim and many awards.  She is a regular translator for Sahitya Akademi.  Her translation of Punjabi poet Jaswant Deed’s “Kamandal” is being published by Sahitya Akademi.  Dr. Atima Sharma, Principal KMV lauded her for her feats and averred that Dr. Madhumeet is doing a great service to the field of literature through all her ventures.
