
Women’s Day being celebrated at Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana on Saturday.
Jalandhar, March 8, 2014: To commemorate the International Women’s Day, Department of English, Ramgarhia Girls College, organised a two-day workshop “Know Thyself”.
The Workshop is organised with an aim to chisel the personalities of young girls. Dr. S. M. Kant, the former Director, Dept. of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh and at present serving in the capacity of Advisor, Youth & Cultural Affairs, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, is the resource person of the workshop. From organising festivals at the university level to the promotion of art, culture and literary activities at the State and National level, Dr. Kant has immense experience. He was given a warm welcome by Principal, Dr. Narinder Sandhu, Ranjodh Singh, President, Jagtar Singh, Secretary, Ramgarhia Educational Council, Prof. Tajinder Kaur, Head, Department of English, and her team. While talking about the Workshop, Prof. Tajinder Kaur said that it is focused on enhancing the communication skills and grooming the personalities of the students. An effort is also made to help the students build their confidence. Dr. Kant emphasised on the need to have these attributes for succeeding in life. The workshop will conclude on March 9.
A Health Awareness Camp was also organised by the Department of Home Science. The motive behind organising this camp was to enlighten the women about various health issues. Women are the foundation of a healthy society so it becomes pertinent to promote their physical and mental health. On the occasion, Dr. Nitin Behl, MD, DM, Gastroenterologist, Dr. Nitin Sethi, M. Ch, Plastic Surgeon and Dr. Minakshi Jain, MD, Dermatologist from Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana, apprised the students of different health problems and the preventive measures that can be taken against them. They were given a warm welcome by Prof. Ritu Sood, Head, Department of Home Science, and her team. Dr. Nitin Behl talked about the digestive system and its disorders and Dr. Nitin Sethi and Dr. Minakshi Jain shed light on various skin problems that women face. Dr. Behl also brought his team along with him and conducted the screening of staff for Hepatitis B and C. An interactive session was also held during which the doctors answered the queries of the students and staff. Shinu Hora, Makeup Artist from Shinu Hora Makeovers, Bhagat Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, also registered her presence on the day. She discussed different makeup techniques with the students of Cosmetology and gave them a demonstration of light makeup and party makeup. She emphasised that nowadays subtle makeup is in trend and added that the best makeup is the one that looks natural. Sanchita Arora, Hairstylist and Cosmetologist from Hiyaav Beauty Hub, Model Town Extension, Ludhiana, told the students about different haircuts, hair styling techniques and also gave them some tips on hair care. Free consultation on health, diet and beauty was also provided to the students by the experts. While talking about the importance of women’s day, Principal, Dr. Narinder Sandhu said that the Health Awareness Camp and the Workshop were organised with an aim to promote the well-being of womenfolk and to enable them to take better care of their health and personality. Ranjodh Singh and Jagtar Singh averred that through these events, we celebrate the spirit of womanhood. They further remarked that women are the backbone of our society and their empowerment is of prime importance.
