Jalandhar, April 22, 2014: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, has been ceaselessly endeavouring for the holistic development of its students. In keeping with this trend, PRAYAAS, a shop has been opened in the college premises to provide a platform to the students to showcase their creative abilities. PRAYAAS is a joint endeavour of Gandhian Studies Centre, Women Studies Centre and the students of KMV. This venture was inaugurated by Chander Mohan President Arya Shiksha Mandal, who maintained that in the present era of competition and metamorphic transformations taking place in the fields of commerce and industry, students have to develop all kinds of entrepreneurial and managerial skills to carve a niche for themselves.
Very true to its mission and vision of Women Empowerment, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has always focused on inculcating such skills in the students to help them to remain focused. Through the outlet, PRAYAAS, students can sell their products and earn together with their education. So, here at KMV, students can practically implement their classroom learning by marketing different products made by them. Various products displayed and sold in PRAYAAS are: T-shirts, Coffee Mugs, Designer Kurtis, Designer dresses, Decorative and Ornamental items, Pickles and Confectionery items, College Bags, Woodcrafts, Paintings and Greeting Cards. Out of these products, majority of items are designed and developed by the students of Fashion Designing, Fine Arts, Computers, Food Science and Micro-Biology, Home Science, Textile Designing Departments. A vital contribution is made by the students of PG Dept of Commerce and Business Administration by exercising their marketing and sales promotion skills. The total price at which the products are sold goes to the students and in case of products procured from outside sources as per the demand of the students, a nominal amount of profit is taken which goes towards the scholarships for needy students. PRAYAAS, a collective endeavour of the students, by the students and for the students is a landmark achievement of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya in the direction of promoting economic, creative self reliance and self dependence. Principal, Prof. Atima Sharma maintained that KMV has always made relentless efforts to steer the students in the right direction and is continuously scaling unprecedented heights and touching new heights with every coming dawn.
